This project will improve safety for pedestrians in Bandon by bringing several highway curb ramps into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and installing a new pedestrian crossing at the intersection of U.S. 101 and 9th Street. The project also will replace ADA sidewalk ramps in Camas Valley and Winston. In Bandon, watch for intermittent lane and shoulder closures along U.S. 101. Alternate routes will be identified for pedestrians during sidewalk construction.

This project replaces the rails and makes other repairs on two U.S. 101 bridges in Douglas County: Tahkenitch Creek (MP 202.7) and Ranch Road south of Reedsport (MP 213.2). At Takhenitch Creek, a portable traffic signal is in use. Expect brief delays. At the bridge over Ranch Road south of Reedsport, watch for a traffic alignment change and traffic control devices. Flaggers will provide traffic control as needed.

Paving preservation project from Ecola Creek to Arcadia Beach. Expect delays of up to 20 minutes during lane closure activities. Bridge locations will be narrowed, eliminating either northbound or southbound shoulder access for pedestrians and bicyclists. Nightly lane closures are anticipated Sunday evening through Friday morning. Flaggers will control traffic around the work zone. The bridge locations will have temporary concrete barrier installed, and temporary striping will guide the open lanes around the work zone. Initial project setup activities are occurring. A work zone behind the concrete barrier at the bridge locations will be installed and maintained until the bridge rail reconstruction is completed. Estimating completion of the project in Spring 2023.

Project Description: We are installing modern traffic signal controllers, additional vehicle radar detection equipment and traffic monitoring cameras along Oregon 224 (Milwaukie Expressway) from SE 17th Avenue to I-205. We are also adding new thermal imaging sensors at five signalized intersections on OR 224 to detect bicyclists and trigger longer green lights, allowing them more time to cross wide intersections. The new equipment will allow ODOT engineers and technicians to monitor traffic signal performance, manage congestion and improve safety along this corridor.
